ASO Al Ruba'ie today. The deeper I explore oud and the broader world of artisinal fragrance, I find that "smokiness" is a characteristic that speaks from the forefront, and loudly. High-temp vs. low-temp distillation is the essential question, I gather, and I find that my tastes are quite clearly in the "low temp" camp. The burnt notes are just too obliterating.
It will like sometimes u dont want to use agarwood , and u want to just use oil, so maybe that oil will give u that smoky feeling , incensyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

I see, so a smoky oil can come closer to the experience of burning chips. I've not yet even begun to explore heating agarwood chips, so my tastes must have room to grow!

Basically buddy u prefer non traditional style of Agarwood distillation ... ASO is traditional house and in my opinion it's the strongest selling point of the house.

I just love what they bring to the party.

But I get it u prefer zero/non soak without auxiliaries

Specially in the dry down, and its not case with all oils ,just try burning agarwood it will be a really beautiful experience.

I'm not sure I agree. Soak vs. temp are two different parameters. I know traditional style involves a soak, and that the fermentation can radically alter a profile, but I enjoy the fermented notes on lots of ASO oils. I just wore Ameen last night and was pleased with its barn-leather funky animal notes. I'm speaking more directly to the way that charred notes that I find in Al Ruba'ie, and other like Al Kadrie, are to me overshadowing.

Yes. The sharper smokiness in Al Ruba'ie II lasts for about 3o minutes, but softens into smooth-woody-creamy-sparkly.

Everything is relative. My nose notices differences, and coming from a week spent with attar, the burnt facets were very noticeable, but not in-your-face.

AA Luang today. Simply awesome. Clean smelling wood with that radish/carrot/earth note I’ve been told is Kinam(esque) that keeps coming in and out in waves. Major uplifting mind-buzz too. A seriously great experience. Might be (sell some other stuff, and buy a) full bottle worthy.
