Today I am wearing Anokha 2 by LuckyOud.

Take Anokha 1 and refine it 10 times more and add the mesmerizing oud buzz in the drydown, you get Anokha 2.

Starts off quite volatile with vaporous cresol like opening. I think, because the oil is still 'new', the first few minutes are crazy and transitions are very fast. I get some honeyed hay and some cola, not a lot. Which then transitions to hive off sweet tobacco like whiffs, followed by fruit leather. I got a very evident berry note(ripe laal ber) and notes of cured tobacco used in hookah, very famous from the region I hail from in northern part of India.
Ultimately, settles down into a pure oud bliss on the skin with hints of hay and incense.

To sum it all up, it is a clean, resinous, easy to wear, technique augmented Hindi with great value for money. Swipe away with no guilt.

Ipoh Strawberry by Joseph DeLapp

Ipoh strawberry opens up with its distinctive strawberry note. The strawberry became a squish, emitting its comforting sweetness. While it is slowly melting away, it melts my heart at the same time. while the sweetness is prominent, there is unmistakable Malaysian quality. that silk textured cola vibe.

The most interesting part of Ipoh strawberry is how it presents many different facets of sweetness. fruity, chocolatey, sugary, caramelly, what kind of sweetness you are looking for, you will find it in Ipoh strawberry.

Ghazal by Habzoud

What I find fascinating about this oil is that from my sample I got a lot of deep leather and musk with incense and a touch of fizzy Malaysian nuances.

I went and bought a gram and let it sit for awhile. I pulled it out last night and put a swipe on before bed around 7pm. The usual notes ensued. Vaporous and mentholic leather on top of brown animal Hyde. But something new happened. The slight green nuances I found in the base originally intensified. So much so there was at least two hours of bright green Malaysian woods. It was almost floral in a way.

The addition of this note has completely changed my perception of this oil. Now I’m wondering if this green note will intensify over the years with aging. I really hope it does because I found it fantastic.

I've been on a small island with no service but it's incredible how different everything smells in this climate. LMK's Tian Long has a beautiful musky oudhy deep dry down... EO's Camasa stays Hindi through and through, never swerving Cambodian/Thai like it seems to in NY. Even People's Silani has a deep woody ending here. But the real stars for me have been Nusa and GHAITH by ASO... true summer delights of oud. I MUST get more of these when I have $$$

GHAITH sounds very interesting.

Swiped ASO Jamaal

..... searching for kyara and kinam
......sifting through layers of wood and oudiness
......moving aside Malaysian characteristics
facets of kinam are revealed......
........sweetness, bitterness, a citrus glow, and a little lactic.
These facets don’t come at you all at once, but slowly come together at the heart, riding the vapors that fly off the skin.

Although I perceive notes of kinam,
the oil does not sing a kyara song.

Allow me to elaborate....
I have smelled kyara notes in very many oils,
that were not even touted as kinamic oils, e.g. Oud Yusuf, Aroha Kush, and some Cambodis.
While the focus has been on notes/facets, I feel that the intensity of kyara has been overlooked, give me an oil that not only delivers the notes, but does so with a strong projection and body, but of course that’s asking too much😀

Bottom line......
How well does the oil sing a kyara song, when you swipe it, is the kyara upfront and very noticeable, and does it stand alone or share the stage with other actors.

Jamaal is quite artisanal, for it to offer it’s unique profile, from Malaysian wood. Not loud to begin with, but still brings-on the scent for a good ride, which reminds me of some other top end oils.
Such an interesting oil... My first swipe I got a little light apple fruit skin, Malay hints, wood... then BAM huge wall of reddish cinnamon Kinam notes that lasted for maybe 45 minutes...

Then I put it on th/e next morning and got none of the same notes. Instead, peanuts and fresh breeze with almost like a Taha top and finally a little bit of incense. I check all my ASO samples and couldn't understand. Third wear it was different again: I could barely smell it. I threw the sample aside and two days later it was the same as that beautiful first time: BAM, beautiful. I'm not surprised people can't make sense of this one. It's a head scratcher... but when it hits right, it is otherworldly.

I get that a lot with oud oils,
different perceptions
on different days
sometimes weak
sometimes billowy
and you never know what facets will hit you.

Tabeer Oud’s newest releases came today. If I’m correct Jalukie is Assamese and Pahkang is Manipur.

first impressions

Jalukie is similar to Bhramaputra but with a really exquisite opening of Hay and the slightest touch of barn. I wouldn’t even call it barn because it’s so soft but there is an umami note happening that almost reminds me of breast milk but not quite cheese. Regardless this only lasts for a few minutes before hitting sweet green florals, honey, cinnamon and herbs. This is an ultra clean top note driven oil that picks up a smooth leather and hay towards the heart but it’s the classic clean leather note found in Bhramaputra.

Pahkang Wow!!! I love the opening here. It’s dry woods with an intense bitterness. It almost have this earthy caramelized brown vetiver note. Nothing about this is green but there’s dark woods, grass, hay, and tons of spice. I’d say bitter black pepper, dry woods and clean hay dominate the opening. The heart picks up this interesting Cambodian fermented fruit vibe only for a moment. Imagine over fermented berries and spices woods. Once this subsides the drydown is sweet honey and clean leather.

Pahkang is all about basenotes. It’s deep, spicy but clean.

Jalukie is ultra clean, top note driven and honestly it’s one of the best Hindi’s I’ve ever smelled. Umair is making magic happen here.

You know after this release I think my foray in Nagaland, Manipur and Assam are officially covered hahah! I love Hindi’s but my collection is pretty much all Hindi Oud at this point.

Oudbase and Al Hashimi are the next venture on my list! What’s yours friend?

He’s quite the gem that’s for sure! I’m obsessed with these oils right now. I’m excited to hear your thoughts on these.
Umair bhai was very kind and sent me his previous high grade distillations. So without even trying the new batch, I can tell you that he is setting the bar when it comes to hindi. For example, I can safely say that if Kakochang was done by Ensar or Taha, it would already be raised to legend status. Unfortunately only a limited quantity was done. Kakochange has become a reference point for me already. There are few other distillers who are doing amazing work, for example Rafi bhai. These are all in the pipeline. One thing I like about it is, these are all local brothers sourcing material from the local people. The money should go to these people and not the middle men.
