Emperor of Kedah (Jinkoh): Cardamom, cinnamon-laden (lots of it) very sweet berries (mostly giving a dark purple colour/fruit impression), star anise (just a hint), vanilla, benzoin, (not sure) touch of rum succan, frankincense tears that turns the air sweet for after being on a heater at low temperature for a very long time, aged Malaysian's dark and brooding incensy smoke. Not sure but I detect some facets of pink/blue lotus and orris resinoid just on the periphery of it's spice-laden purple head to deep heart section. There is a musky quality too - buried deep in it's very long-tailed dry down.

Ashfaque, you should've bought some when you had the chance!☹️ I have less than a quarter of a swipe left in an applicator (someone kindly shared that with me yesterday).

Very few oud oils have moved me this way! Thanks @Mario P.

I don’t know what got into me,
I’m in the mood for oud,
so again….another application.

This time it’s Olefaktory Ma’u Xanh La’

I’ve been heating Vietnamese Oudh and Sticks lately, MXL is full of the gently heated aroma and the vibrational verve of the oudh’s resin.

EO.....Borneo Malinau 50K....2005.
In June 2020 when I first started buying Oudh....I got a sample package from Adam in Jordan for samples of some of the big hitters from Ensar collection.....There were about ten viles of 0.15g samples.
I was searching through some books on my bookshelf and low and behold....what must have snuck down the side....this little bag with these ten viles still with bubble wrap around them. They must have fallen to the side ans I never noticed them because I was buying other stuff to try......it feels like a free delivery all over again........

I love it when that happens!!

Isn’t that about a 200 and something dollars sample pack? you didn’t even notice it was missing?

In 2020 I had so many oils ordered and as they arrived I would sample them and then make notes on the oils.
It was my first sample pack and as the viles were small compared to the sturdy bottles, I placed them on the book shelf.
2020 was a chaotic year not just for COVID but other things as well. I got another sample pack from @Al Shareef Oudh and just some how lost track of them. Also I got many small sample viles from vendors and sellers here....that I had so many of these small viles that they just got misplaced in my mind.

But they were never fully forgotten @Mr.P ....😇
My nightmare would be what you are doing cross country with my collection...

I just touched a tiny speck of ASO Malek Al Malayzi which for some reason I ended up with a sample of several years ago. I remember this as a near perfect oil, but I haven’t worn it in years so I was wondering how my expectations would compare to reality. Exceeded my expectations once again.

This oil is perfectly aged - the fresh distilled fruity stuff is long gone
and the “well matured aspect” seems to permeate every molecule in the oil without any signs of rot or cheese or cat spit or gut bacteria. Inky dense oud like ASO crammed two bottles of oud into one.

Don’t know if this still exists but if you can afford it I would suggest you get some.Seems like “museum oud”
Do you still have the Al Malek Al Ceeni sample as well?

I haven’t smelled that in a long time but I know it well as I spent a lot of time with that sample. I think I mentioned to you that that was only the second time I encountered something resembling that in all of the agarwood that I have sniffed - it was very striking. Smelled like a more refined version of one very fine old oil that I just randomly had a chance to sniff back in the late 90’s. A very refined unified smooth Sinensis profile but with NONE of the odd pungent fresh still notes, none of the “salivary notes”,(thank you kyarazen for this concept) or anything distracting from this perfect sinensis syrup.

I used it all up unfortunately but I believe I washed the bottle with a little bit of alcohol and that extract is somewhere in my sample box.

That is one heck of an oil. Basically the only kinam / sinsensis type I have smelled that isn’t a mixed bag. I feel like every other sinensis oil I have has obvious compromises in the profile (solely from the perspective of my personal taste and my limited experience with sinensis oils), this being the exception. I love all of my imperfect sinensis oils can’t imagine being able to dab something like this…

Why do you ask?

Edit: found it! I’m going to put on a swipe as soon as the other agarwood I wore this morning fades.

Ah here.....
I have a similar small vile of this too.
Is this a Hindi oil?
I ask because I am getting a barn note from it.
Another one of the samples I got from @Al Shareef Oudh that was used sparingly... Not sure if the oxygen will affect this little sample...what do you think @Mr.P ?

Hello Ouddicts 🙂

AA Blue Malay
Habz Zamarad
Hikayat Seri Karas

Blue Malay is the Queen of Malaysia …
Sweet cola « Mister freeze » Candy vibe with icy effect, but my favorite part is after 1 hour , the vanilla cinnamon Kinamic vapor …
This oil is absolutely wonderful but maybe light and doesn’t last long time ^^
Zamarad share similar vibe without the Kinamic aspect…

Seri Karas is similar also but still fresh like Taha oils …

Malay oils are one of my favorite region 🙂

Have Gooud swipe Ouddicts

I asked because when you mentioned Al Malek Al Maliyzi I thought we had sent the two samples together. Glad you still have some for scent memory.

Brother @DubOudh it's a Chinese Sinensis

You get barn from Malek al Ceeni?

I don’t think you have to second-guess your impressions! My wife smells barn notes in many oils that I do not.

This is why olfactory experience is so fascinating, two people could smell the exact same oil and have different experiences.

Having said that, there is also a level of objectivity in smelling, it isn't ALL subjective, and that is why we do have certain primary references similar to colours.

One aspect of smell is how easily it is influenced by the environment around us. If a person is using cleaning products or citrus based products, they will tend to be off the middle when it comes to smelling as any dense smells will come off much heavier to them.

One should figure out how to be always be in the "neutral zone" especially before they study an scent. Neutralising ones palette isn't necessary if you are just wearing oils as a fragrance, but it is if you are studying them.
