I just received my order from RBO :
I am discovering the many samples Ismail kindly add to every package.

Phuket 2015 : opening of candied fruits, with a tangy touch, old books, old wood, Virginia tobacco syrup. It is a more masculine oil, no fecal notes.
Incense ! Prune syrup - with a subtle smoky note - which reduces in a cauldron. Old leather, very lightly tarred. 15 minutes later: woody, woody, woody! Thirty years old balsamic vinegar.
Very stylish old wood… can't wait to see what this oil will bring when I use it to make attars.
Thank to God who gave us Agarwood to gladden the heart of man!

My first wearing of oud in maybe 2-3 weeks - have been quite unwell and sense of smell's been rubbish.
Ooof, this is strong! Weirdly has a vibe of Sumatran oud - a little like Rising Phoenix's "Qing", but it's a Malay/Thai/Vietnamese release. Interesting

smells great, am really enjoying this

Wearing again since I didn't swap it out last night for another oil to bring to work
Still enjoying this, the Thai is kicking through prominently today. However, it's short-lasting - still getting really crap perception of ouds latelely. Damnit sense of smell, come back! Seems to be limited to ouds - can notice my spray perfumes the next day after a wearing. Very odd.

Altamsah by Habz, a Malay & Borneo co-distill. Super strong, has that Malaysian green/black smell with the Borneo kicking in a bit of sweetness. This stuff jumps off the skin upon first swipe!
My sense of smell is still gone so I expect to not detect this in 2 hrs' time 🙁

Oud Saladin by Tabeer Oud
Beauty and the Beast by ALD
First swiped Oud Saladin, and after an hour dressed Beauty and Beast, and then I wished I hadn't worn this perfume. Oud Saladin is sheer beauty, just beauty! This tradition had been started by Mr. Taha by offering Hindustan I, and Oud Saladin is one of peaks of that series. It is just viscous Oud Wine. Freshly distilled oil it is, but no off notes at all. Close to skin, but who cares! And Beauty and the Beast smelt to me a strong punch of average Hindi Oud oil mixed in ethanol, and that's all. That alcohol-istic weirdly skanky Oud Rose is not my cup of tea at all. Ajmal perfume. Anyway, Saladin made my day. I wish it were two or three years old.

a bold dark affair, with spanking oudiness,

Inaayat from Oud Tripura. Both traditional with a bit of funk, the groovy kind, a little cheesiness but light and more up top going on than below. relatively fresh oil I think.

EO Aroha Kyaku 2020 Meroke/Thai Smoke and Shadow. Dark resinous incense and oud smoke. Drydown is nice, almost refreshing with maybe a hint of a dark wine or black currant.

Been wearing a vintage Cambodi oil from Azman the last couple days and it’s a lovely oil. Leather, incense smoke, Malbec wine, dark wood furniture and camphor/mint. Very comforting.
