Khao Yai from Yusa Aromatics. A beautiful wild Thai oil. This was initially a fresh fruit bomb, but a few months of oxidation has revealed cool blue notes, like gentle ripples on a lake in sunshine. The fruit has taken on some dried/skin notes while still keeping its fresh and lively dance. There is a bite of sour jelly candy which is very addictive. A touch of incense is starting to peek through. Great balance.

Imperial Oud - Oud Meets West. To me, this is more of an attar than a straight-up oud. I'm quite certain that it is pure agarwood but as an attar, it is at a very high level. You cannot obtain an attar of this quality through normal means. It starts off floral, as it should, with some underlying animalics. It fades into more spices and a little bit of cinnamon. Wood and spices are the base notes with nuances of a naughty Musk...maybe Kashmiri Musk? Silage is subtle and longevity is not great but it is one of my favorites.

Grandawood “peated oud” today.

I am always on the quest for budget oud that improves with time. I have no interest at all on $300 grams and so on. More power to anyone who can live that rich.

So I find myself buying the cheap stuff and sometimes it’s a waste of money and sometimes I don’t know for 10 years.

Grandawood has good prices especially with usd:aud being favorable.

The “peated oud” is clearly from similar stock material as “warming sun” and the “triple happiness” co2 oil. Maybe the same wood, maybe the same species but different wood, who knows. Their “copy” is very long winded with facts and stories all intermingled. Terrible approach to describing products and it’s hard to figure out exactly what species you’ve got and in some cases I received conflicting information from the seller compared to what I read on their website.

So regardless of what the site says, peated oud, warming sun, triple happiness all have a similar core scent but with different additional notes reflecting the method of extraction.

Peated oud has a notable fermented aspect to it. Smells young - still has the shrieking top and heart notes of unoxidized plantation oud. Has faint whiffs of violet floral notes.

The violet notes are strongest in the triple happiness co2 oil. This one has some of the similar floral violet top notes as Olefaktory cultivated kinam oil.

The warming sun has the same heart and shrieking “new oud”
notes but smells like they had a similar ferment to oriscent “royal kinam” - it smells like a young cultivated brother of that oil. You would never confuse the two, but they seem to have been processed similarly.

It’s the Purple Nurple this afternoon. Oriscent purple papua. Zesty steam distilled papua oud. Intense buzzy scent. Smells a lot like my ASO merauke chips on the heater but pungent. It is starting to develop some of that “old papua oud” scent in its heart and base notes. This is what I’ve been waiting for with this oil - it has been a bit too harsh and almost bitter / herbal for my tastes these last 10 years or however long it’s been.

I put a smidgen of EO blue lotus on both sides of my neck. My coworker said OMG THAT SH** IS STRONG. smh, I forget how sensitive my co-workers are to scents.

edit: meant to put this one in the attar thread lol

It is an attar 🙂 IIRC, the 'west' element of the name was sorta French perfume style, think it was blended with bergamot and similar classic cologne ingredients

Am wearing Taj Mahal from Habz today. Golden, warming, dense. Cracking!

“Naughty musk” definitely sounds Iike labdanum to me

Kinamantan by EO
Mitti Attar Perfume by ALD

Very much EO signature as the vintage feel in there is very seductive. The oil has got oxidized too that has enhanced its lasting on the skin. Mitti Attar is not worth-mentioning. Very much ordinary scent. A diluted version of any Mitti Attar oil from Colaba, India.
