Just came across this post and your comment about an oud from this vendor caught my eye. I bought three oils from them and one is far and away the funkiest oil I've ever come across. It really reminds me of a very, very strong blue cheese that's been sitting out in the sun. I've wondered if there is any hope for me and this oil (will it ever mellow out to the point where I can actually enjoy it?), and I've wanted to ask members here about it but I haven't because I know that they are not vendors here and I didn't want to offend/upset/break rules, etc. But now that I see you've mentioned them and not only that, you also have a funky oil from them I guess it's safe to ask. Will giving it time really tame it? Does that really happen for something like this? There might be hope? I've got an oil from Feel Oud that was a little wild for me and I've noticed that I'm either getting used to it, or it is mellowing out with age. I was really thrown by the name of this oil (something herbal, sweet and spicy, but don't remember exactly right now), and found it to be more as I've already said a sharp, blue cheese.Grandawood “peated oud” which seems to be a fermented / soaked Aquilaria sinensis extract. This oil was too funky for me at first but either the sample has settled down or I’ve become desensitized because it is more pleasant this time around. There is a smooth confectionary chocolate like quality that reminds me of some Hindi ouds I have smelled, as well as some general anaerobic fermentation notes I have smelled in a fair number of ouds over the years. seems to be morphing into a nice bright woody tang.
This oil is worth sampling. If you’re put off by the old school funk, put it away for a while and revisit it after a couple of months.
I have not sampled that one but I did get a sampler of their cultivated oils. None were really outstanding, and a good number of them smelled like the distillation was manipulated by long soaks or something to add a a bit of ferment and funk to what would otherwise be a pretty bland oil. I have two oils from them that I like but the other 5 or six in the sampler I have no interest in wearing and they pale in comparison to olefaktory’s cultivated offerings for example.Just checked — Sweet Herbal Spice. Not at all like what I imagined it would be like based on their description, but seems to be well received. Here’s to
