From THE OUD LAB, my Papua 2003 arrived. Sometimes bottles don't live up to samples, air whatever.

I'm not sure I can articulate my gratitude for the honor and gift of being able to buy this oud. Earthy with intense INCENSE. With time, a depth of oak/ oud/ camphor/frankincense. ANTIQUE & sacred, time travel. Smells like a million dollars. Sultan worthy🙂

Borneo kick lately….

EO Ertugrul
Agar Aura Royal Malinau
And… Feel Oud Malinau Extreme

Ertugrul I get why people like it, but I think it’s a very light delicate oil. It almost reminds me of Borneo Diesel (4000) light. It’s good, great even… but then there’s…

Royal Malinau is on a different level, it’s a top top tier oil. There’s so much going on with it, it’s almost too much. It’s aged into something just amazing. Top, middle and base are all dare I say… VERY near perfect…

And then there’s Malinau Extreme…. Here’s the review… I own a decent stash of Oud… I would gather up 3 grams of ANY Oud I own to trade for 2 grams of this oil-IF I could find any. China Sayang, Hainain 05, NTLTD, RK 2.0, Royal Myanma, Royal Sumatra, Purple Kinam, Oriana, Guallam Liquide… you get the point. Caveat, I’ve never tried the original (ORIGINAL) Borneo 3000… but this oil is HANDS DOWN the best Borneo oil ever made to my nose. I love this oil, I will be sad when it’s gone. Adam claims only a small amount was made. Sometimes I wish he would go back on whatever quest he was on back then when he distilled this oil and Virgin Sumatran Island. The wood quality must have been INSANE.

Al hashimi's assami... I have been wearing this one to bed every day. My first and only Hindi at the moment. It is my favorite oil... I just spilt almost all of it. I was putting the dipstick back not paying attention. Went in at an angle and the bottle slipped from underneath onto my lap uncapped. Anyways... what are your guy's favorite hindi oud's? because I'm back on the market for one.

the oud ertugrul i got from @zahir is a bomb potent powerhouse!! not delicate at all but would dare to call it aggressive and there are 6 stages that i see extremely clearly different from one another other by losing and gaining notes. even the drydown has two stages. it is the only oil i kept i sold every oil i had lol and i have 4g of this baby. i wonder if your ertugrul is oxidised or if its just people have different nose for different oil type situation. would be interested in buying more if i could test some and if you are willing to sell some

I am sure it’s the “different nose” effect. I get a lot of longevity in the oil, and see how it changes through the stages and even possibly gets more interesting in the dry down, next day even. I do still perceive it’s a lighter oil from Ensar. When it first came out I picked up a sample of it, used it up and felt the same way. When I was sent the gram I have now from @BrandonGilbert to re try it, same. I like it, a lot, but I find those other two oils I named to be more to my personal liking for a Borneo oil. I would say Ensar has at least 3 Borneos I like better than Ertugrul even — White Kinam, Borneo Diesel, and Borneo 3000 (I have 2015 version). Sorry @language scent i have less than 1 gram of all 3 named above.

I had the same effect when i bought some ertugrul from another 2 people on ouddict. it was very soft. then i got @zahir oil and it was way way more potent. i believe its not the nose but more the bottle it is decanted from. for example i got some oud royal sample recently and it was nothing there, very little aroma...now many people tell me it is a loud oil. i have smelled white kinam it was weak, then again a good friend who has it says it is strong and still he likes ertugrul better and he also likes it better than royal malinua. but anyway everyone has their own taste and the truth must be somewhere in the middle, both nose and oil must play a role. maybe different people nose gets used to some oils more than others. all borneo oils are beautiful i have smelled many, the only reason i like the ertugrul more than any other oil is because it is the only one that gives me true purple kyara notes on low heat and also some green and white and even yellow. so many people feel other borneo oils are better but i doubt they have been smelling as much kyara as i have been sniffing and eating the past 3.5 years LOL look at borneo kinam even ensar says its better, but personally i think it is not even close. ertugrul is the only oil at the moment that i would spend on. even tho ive been curious on many oils from the sellers in ouddict i am just collecting only kyara, agarwood and ertugrul oil LOL maybe one day i will have a tola...damn another 8grams...dreams

also, i forgot to mention there are a bunch of oils that also give some kinamic notes but the only problem is that non kinamic notes cover them more and this isnt in my nose the case for the ertugrul. but that is perfectly fine because oud is another huge love and agarwood is gorgeous, its just for me being obsessed more with the kinam that i feel this way. one strange thing i have noticed about ertugrul that i do not like is that on certain environments it gives me a wet earth smell rarely, like outside with specific humidity but in other environments it is completely void. very strange stuff

@language scent glad that you are still loving the oil 🙂 I thank you for the opportunity to sample different kinds of Kinams in return! I AM very particular about storing things properly so idk if that had any impact or not. And as I had told you, I had barely used the oil at all so that means that the bottle was not even opened that frequently!

thank you more for this oil as i said was the first oil i ever smelled and my personal favorite. Sure more quality oils exist but this is just a favorite. I am pretty sure it was not only your storage techniques and care for your oils but also probably decanted from a new bottle into your vvial. i think when they have many ml's of the oils they might have it stored in more than one bottle so MAYBE if a bottle is decanted from a bottle that is 3/4 down from decanting into bottles and vials the oil loses its punch i dont know really just a wild guess.

We are veering off topic a bit, maybe we should have an entire Borneo section—discuss Borneo oils all day! They are indeed all amazing and it’s easy to forget them sometimes. So satisfying!!

Getting back to Oud of the Day I’m wearing Borneo King and Borneo 18 from Craft Oud today and Borneo King is a superb oil. It’s really great. I would say it’s up there with all the other oils I’ve worn over past few days. Would be hard to say Ertugrul, Royal Malinau or White Kinam are better oils. Different maybe, but this oil is a heavyweight contender. Borneo 18 is very good as well, not on the level of King but still really good-reminds me more along lines of Borneo 50k personally.

Al Hashimi - Ibn Zaydun
Perak, Malaysia. distilled in 2017

Opens up with a potent piney green note along with cardamom, clove, and borneol. feels refreshing, and invigorating.

shortly after the application, it becomes quite medicinal to my nose. it resembles the images of the mediterranean ocean with lots of fragrant plants and herbs.

it smells very foreign to me, I don't think I've smelt anything like this anywhere else. so, it's quite difficult to appreciate this one both objectively and subjectively due to its alienness.

and, there's a resemblance of another oil from the Ibz-series, Ibn Zamrak which I think is one of the best oils from Al Hashimi. both oils have this pleasant nuanced sweetness that is strongly diffusive.

still, the medicinal aspect puts me off a bit, making it hard for me to choose this as my frequent choice of oils.

Last night,

@RisingPhoenix - Kepi. I received my order from JK yesterday and he kindly sent me many samples, unfortunately this one leaked and I got it all over my hands while removing the samples from the wrapped baggie thing they came in. So, it was inadvertant wear as I going in the bath and wouldn't have bothered swiping an oil, figuring it'd get washed off in the water.
A really good smell here, I couldn't pinpoint its location (or actually which oil had leaked until I smelled them all from the cap), but once JK mentioned Maroke then yes, I can totally see it. However, it is very different in profile to the Marokes I've tried - much lighter, airier as opposed to the darker type I've tried (I think @Rai Munir often describes them as 'shoe factory' - something I've never experienced but I think I can see where he's coming from)
Interestingly, I could still smell this faintly after the bath. Good stuff, will need to give it a proper wearing shortly.

Today,

Al Hashimi - Viet Kong & Thaqeel

Viet Kong is really good, a very good blend between these 2 regions. No barn or animalic profile in sight, and very smooth and rounded. Good stuff.
The Thaqeel, for its density isn't that heavy or loud smelling. I haven't been paying too much attention to its progression tbh, but now it's quite quiet and hard to pick up

lol, I applied these hours ago and the Thaqeel is still sitting in an oily state on my skin. It is thick (yet faint in aroma)!

Nakhon Si Thammrat 2021 by RPP. Lovely sweet, light oil.

ETA: drydown on this is beautiful.

Fragrant Harbour, regrettably I don't wear enough oud oil, I've had some issues with my skin recently particularly from the relentless hand washing at work.

Glad to be wearing some oil again, and this is the right oil for me to begin unwinding as I look to the weekend.
Is this the Imperial Oud Fragrant Harbour, I seldom get this oil out. So precious!
