CraftOud's Koh Kong 2015.

Lovely, special, wild Koh Kong oil.

Beautiful slow transitions, from deep dark red to black resinous notes with a damp, petrichor note in a more urban but still very much near nature kinda note with the wet urban ground but also a overtone of delicious wet, fresh grass and greenery (the greenery sticks around for 3 hours if you concentrate hard enough), sweet red berries/fruits, a slight sourness, agarwood-y notes, with some very soft, subtle mintiness, and in general just very oudy and delightful. Moves onto a more sweet red berry/fruits and sourness reveals itself to be the sour cherry yet again, although every time I wear this it doesnt behave the same, as in, sometimes it might be more sour than sweet etc, this time it was almost balanced but the sweet was/is more prominent. Resinous notes are still there but the agarwood notes come in hard and combine the two to make a nice Cambodian woody, resinous incense note throughout the experience. Soft mintiness starts to get stronger, no menthol or anything just pure lovely soft "kinamic" style mintiness. Some lovely powdery florals, like jasmine for example, as well as other florals. Subtle greenery, earthiness and more florals mixed when you sniff and turn your head side to side in a small area on your hand (instead of big head moves throughout the hand, as I usually put on enough oil to cover a part of my hand in a rectangle/square shape), very beautiful, indeed. Juiced up red sweet fruits and sour red cherries, in a thick, viscous way.

Sweet, sour, floral, earthy, slightly green herbaceous-ness, soft mintiness, woody/oudy resinous incense notes with a petrichor opening... what more do you want🥰?

Here's one I haven't smelled in a while. Ejayb/Olefaktory's "Viet K" 2022, the details of which I no longer recall. Maybe someone here remembers…

It's an interesting oil, my first response relative to the other things i have smelled this month is that it is "toasty" or a bit toasted smelling in the top. it is like literal toast, so I see it as an accessory note.

The heart beneath this smells young and fresh, a bit of the sour pungency I associate with young unsoaked thai oils. I am surprised to also get what I think of as a "Green Gaharu" scent in the top note (this refers back to an oil of that name that Oudhasi released back in early BN days for those of you who were aroubd). I don't really associate this tart semi-metallic sappy aspect with Vietnam but that means basically nothing since for most regions I've only smelled a handful of samples, so who knows what I've missed.

That's the crazy part about this… our mental maps of oud-space are just these little fragments of the whole. It's like a 1000 piece puzzle with many different elements in the scene, and I have been given 50 pieces more or less at random, and now I'm trying to deduce the overall pattern of the puzzle and how this one piece somehow relates to the details in the different quadrants... I can't see how this really fits into the puzzle at this point since it brings together notes from disparate regions.

This is one that I would age considerably before wearing as a personal fragrance. That's not a negative that's just the nature of really quite a few fresh oils regardless of their Pedegree. I have one oil that is TOP but it took 20 years to get where i want to wear it in public haha.

Really not enough to get a good picture - straw colored oil.

I'm excitedly expecting an oil from @Habz786 so I decided to apply a small drop of Sinharaja Ateeq.

What a phenomenal oil. I'm sitting here with my morning coffee in wonder. Opens clean fresh and pristine, like a cool morning breeze by the sea. It then transitions to a beautiful old wood smell that gives me the imagery of old leather bound books in an ancient temple. Wonderfully amazing stuff 🙏

Bummed I missed out on this from a guy that was reselling. Habib's Sri Lankan chips are great. With that in mind, today's Oud is Savera from Pintanna Oud. It shows a bit of that gasoline note, but is otherwise light and tasty-sweet.

@mesOUD - Trat Classic
@mesOUD - Sumatra Blue

Trat classic
for my swipe before bed. Heavy soaking resinous wood smell mixes with chocolatey dusty cacao, and wild untamed leather like aromas. Definitely in the barnyard like wheelhouse. Not quite like some of the other examples, no musky civet or goat hair, more rotting fruits baking in the sun and sour soaked woods. The fruit notes feels like apricot mostly. Leather is a big player for me along with the molten chocolate in the middle of the oil. I fell asleep before it dries down fully, but woke up with a delicious scent still going off the swipe, mostly of leather and some sour fruits.

Swiped on Sumatra Blue this morning, it is a Malaccensis from Sumatra, but definitely has those polished leather notes like Sumbawa Seufi, mixing with those deep jungle like petrichor coolness and muddiness. Wet ashtray smells is here too, although pleasantly presented with the other notes. Not nearly as overpowering like it was in the Malinau. It’s mostly polished leather, wet earth, tobacco, and then a hard to pinpoint blue minty cooling note. It has a certain fresh out of the shower smell, like the gels popular in America for men. Maybe it smells a bit like the aroma chemical calone, but I don’t really know what that smells like. Overall I’d say this is fresher and crisper take on the profile from the region. It does smell from recollection very similar to Sumbawa Seufi, so I’ll have to do a side by side and see what’s up.

Rising Phoenix - 4 Emperors. Jumps out as a Hindi initially but shortly becomes difficult to pinpoint any particular region here. Codistillations are interesting, being that oud is super complex in itself, but throw 4 different regions into the mix and you're looking at a minefield to decipher!

Imperial Oud - Super Hoi An. Very grateful to have acquired a sample of this, but it was in a plastic vial and seems to be oxidizing already, just pure viscosity lol. Kinda affects the smell too in the dense that it doesn't swipe on well, and just sticks to my hand in a gloop. However, it's a fantastic oil no doubt

Love that Super Hoi An!

Today it is An Najwa Papua 2024. I don't know if this is a 2024 distillation or a 2024 release. It is another blast from the past, in the sense of bringing to mind some favorites from a decade ago or more.

I've smelled some facets of this profile in oil from Aceh and Indonesia in general. If this is freshly distilled it's been treated properly for sure. Whenever I smell this type I'm thinking ocean, sand, ambergris, driftwood, salt and of course oud vapor on the breeze. It has a nice bitter nose to it.

Another pristine oil from AN

😀 this is a freshly distilled Papua Oud oil (Gyrinops Moluccana Species)
Another pristine oil from AN

OK that's good to know so now I've got a solid bead on gyrinops, based on this and some oils I got back in the late 90s and 00's as my references.

That's quite a coincidence on the name on the one hand, but I didn't pick the word pristine lightly, and I think it applies to the oil not because of some delicate this or that, but because it smells like a good clean authentic oud of this type with nothing muddying the scent, no sign of any stretching with cheaper oils or Boya.

Qirose by Mesoud for the night. I am astounded by the opening of this oil. Minty vaporis oud meeting a jammy subtly sweet rose with partial green stems; I can taste this on my tongue.

it feels like white meets red and gives birth to pink on my nose buds. My nose buds are a rendezvous to the components

I am taken bro ! The opening is pure bliss.

You are welcome brother
This is an unreleased distillation
(İ forgot it in sun chamber when curing)
İnshaAllah soon will make another batch,bcz really i liked it too

Jinkoh Store Brunei Qi generously applied in the morning and repeated the process before bed. Feels good to swipe it at ease now after having sourced some more. Just an amazing oil all around and it only has 3 years under its belt. Shimmering top notes, perplexing color spectrum in the mid, and a deep woody, nutty, and resinous base, all wrapped up in a cloud of fine black incense smoke. A Brunei it is and a mighty one at that.

TheOudDood is smelling good!
