Can you compare Royal Sarawak to it
Night & day imo. RS is a deep resinous traditional Malay , minimal soak is detected up top but not overly fermented at all , there's a lot going on but in short chocolatey/petrichor/jungly/tobacco/old book/diesel/cola.
EOK is squeaky clean , purple floral/fruity/honey/cinnamon/cola. It has this purple metallic piercing note I love that I guess everyone refers to as "purple kinamic"

@Habz786 - Xiangshui
@AlHindOud - Lao Gold 2

Last night before bed I tossed on some Xiangshui from Habzoud. The incredibly loud dusty leather and medicinal bitterness presented on this oil is intoxicating. Smoky incense and bubbling oud resin. Amazing oil. Need a full bottle.

Woke up today and swiped some Lao Gold 2 from Alhinds generous sample. Opens with a bitter and slightly honeyed sweetness. Very medicine shop bitter, honey combined with vanilla to sweeten up the profile. Some dry florals in addition to the vanilla in the middle. Bitterness shifting to incense smoke in the drydown. Honey and the bitter aspects being the main players here for me.

Two unbelievable high quality distillations, blessed to be able to swipe these gorgeous oils freely.

Sher Shah (An Najwa, 2024). There are so many things I have detected in it (over 25, so far) that I am quite surprised. I thought my nose is slightly off atm. Will share more details later. In the meantime, here are some snippets:

- A very bitter opening with some tea and other astringent (almost green) notes and wet tobacco leaf elegantly drenched in a lovely animalic leather. The initial bitterness (similar to upper Sabah, Vietnam, Cambodia and to some extent some Indo-Filipinos) with a distant ‘charcoal smoke’ siren seems to be a style of some of short soak Hindis Jaabir distills/commissions.

- Unlike in Mighty Mizo (Mizoram 2023, An Najwa), hay is more prominent and animalic here. But the astringencies are still quite prominent like in MM.

- It sits between classically and non-soak/new gen distilled oils – i.e., it’s overall scent profile of gentle animalic and oodles of astringent/almost verdant qualities. It is another fine example of what a careful distillation can achieve. Ma-sha-Allah lovely oil especially if you are a fan of similar aromatics.

Every time i swipe the mesoud Tarakan Qadeem I have a good experience. I don't know that I have smelled enough tarakans to know which tarakan is the best tarakan but this stuff is special to my nose. Have lots of oils I love but this is the one I reach for if i want a bottle with me.

HabzOud - Cambodi Smoke 2.

*WARNING RANT ABOUT MEN IN BLACK THE MOVIE, ALIENS AND SOME SPIRITUAL SHIT*

Not an oil you sit and observe, as it is quite simple, but nice. I was wearing it, passively, while watching the original, Men in Black, first time watching that movie as an adult and there is so many hints of things about aliens and hints about government lol, like the Orion stuff in the movie and The Ra Channellings from the late 70s early 80s, channelled Ra (yes the Egyptian "God", btw, Ra is actually an alien and is 6th density (we are 3rd and have been going into 4th since the end of 2012) light being with all of "its" entities (like people for example) in one being of light as they merged together like every "alien" eventually reaches (including us at some point), until 8th density then we merge back with the creator. Anyway, in the Ra Channellings, Ra said that the Orion group soul (beings/entities who are 5th density) said that they are always trying to infiltrate earth for negative things (Ra never says evil/bad/wrong btw as they believe everything is something that needs to happen in order for the universe to be what it is, but what we call evil or bad they just call negatively polarised), and to eventually take over earth, which is what the movie was somewhat hinting at by talking about Orion destroying earth if we didn't get the galaxy back lol.

Anyway, if you want to read the Ra Channellings the people who wrote the book (which took 5 years for 2 or 3 short books, about 300 pages or something, and it wasn't because it was a creative book, it was because Carla, the chaneller was talking very slow, as in, if she as to say this entire post I am writing it would have taken 10-15mins minimum, probably closer to 30 mins) have a website that you can download it for free as a PDF called www.llresearch.org/books. They are the folk who came up with the term light/love, love/light, from Ra.
*RANT OVER*

About the Oil: Opens up with a very bitter, smokey, incense smell, as if you just placed a massive Cambodian chip on a piece of coal, minutes (2-5) later its still there but a lot weaker and you can now tell it is incense smoke and not something burnt, slight tobacco smokiness too, minutes later notes of very sweet red berry fruits, very woody, resinous (like most if not all Cambodi's, except this one is a little less resinous and more woody and very bakhoor smokey vibes at the start and gets more balanced between wood and strong, sweet sticky resin incense notes later on), and sour cherries. As you get into the oil around 30 mins, it becomes sweeter and sweeter by the minute and 1 hour in it becomes quite resinous and woody smoke, creating this lovely, sweet, sour, woody, and resinous Cambodian incense chip burning on coal, a massive piece. The smokiness never goes away, just changes note like how an incense chip would change after placing it straight on coal, the bitterness is strongest for 1 - 2 mins and can be quite off putting, but it goes away fast and what you are left with 15-30 mins later is a lovely, basic, VERY GOOD representation of what a nice Cambodian incense chip on coal would smell like if you are fumigating.

It is a great simple (please dont confuse simple with bad) oil when you just wanna relax and chill and not study an oil and all of its complexities (as these oils exist and if you dont study them when wearing them most of the time then you are losing out on discovering notes, and that's the fun with those oils, an oil like this is just to add to another fun thing you are doing, kinda like incense sticks in the background or listening to them very closely and even doing Monkoh with a stick, or if you are fumigating with wood and coal, compared to heating it and really listening) as it is just a fun oil to wear when you want to smell Cambodian agarwood incense (I have burned a lot of Cambodi's) as if it is being burned on your hand, and it hits that spot 100%, and watch a movie (like I did) or whatever you want. It is the best representation of fumigating agarwood on coal and listening to agarwood on coal (since it does get less smokey over time as if you are now using a mica plate later on in the oils life) I have experienced with an oil, so far.

And when I say simple, I dont mean bad, Oud oils dont have to be mind bogglingly complex to be enjoyable or even psychoactive, this oil did definitely make the movie better while smelling it throughout.

Lovely oil.

@mesOUD - Tarakan Qadeem

Y’all fellas made me want to put on some Tarakan Qadeem tonight before bed. A sour sweet honey opening, backed up by damp muddy earthiness and tobacco. I’m getting much more of a powdery vanilla/cacao sweetness mixing with the wet and smoke notes. This is behaving more like a leather and blonde tobacco as its sat for a bit. Certain smells give off some bitter notes too. Love this one a lot.

They made me finally order some.

EO Oud Ahmad
Jinkoh Store Grand Emperor of Kedah

Swiped a bit of both because there is a common DNA I can trace. They both share that dark, ancient feel, as well as that musky quality. Overall however, they fell rather opposite with Ahmad bearing a nice sweetness and creaminess to it whereas the Emperor is bitter, sour at times, and quite dry. Both are great in their own way and both rank among the most arresting oud oils I ever witnessed.

@AlHindOud - Koh Kong 2022
@mesOUD - Trat Borai

Morning I swiped on some Koh Kong 2022 from Alhind. A slighty bitter sour sweet opening. Slightly pungent and sour. Dried fruit and bitter medicinal like betel nut. Little bit of Smokey tobacco that shifts to a resinous incense smoke in the drydown. The sour dried fruit and get much sweeter as this oil progresses too. Becoming much more candy sweet further along. A super nice distillation and one I’m looking forward to comparing to Koh Kong from Mehmet.

Finished my third tea session of the day and decided to wind down with some Trat Borai. A semi-soaked opening that leaks very cheesy. Dried apricots with light hints of citrus. A breezy touch of mint and earthy coolness. The apricot cheesy soaked scent persists throughout the whole time in this oil, but shifts to a more sour tamarind and creamy nut shade. Dusty cacao is here too slightly with a hint of tobacco to round out the scent. It’s loud, resinous, sweet, with some nice complexity to keep you interested throughout. One of my favorites if not my favorite Trat oil I’ve tried.
