AA Royal Sumatra V1
Jinkoh Store Grand Emperor Tarakan

Two Indonesian oils that burst in colors. Tarakan is amazing and it feels to only get better with each wear. Boozy vanilla a la Brunei, deep nuttiness and strong blueberries a la Borneo, and a hard woody texture. The green opening has become short-lived and the oil now goes straight to this boozy, nutty, blueberry vanilla woody profile. It is a top 3 Jinkoh oil for me next to the Emperor of China V1 and Brunei Qi. Royal Sumatra is just as colorful but more pastel-like. Blue lotus steeped in lemonade served cold in the most scorching heat, freezing your brain. A slight nutty Borneo wood dry-down to balance the high-pitched opening. I can see why this one is a favorite of many oudheads. I didn't really enjoy one single Sumatran oil that I tried but this one is in a galaxy of its own.

Ensar Oud - Maroha Myaku
N/A - Burma (SQ)

Welp, finally got the opportunity to try my first oil from Ensar. Swiped on Maroha Myaku in the morning. Opens with a dark earthy coffee bean roasting alongside massive blasts of incense smoke. I find the smell of this opening very similar to Mehmets Merauke oil, containing many of the earthy petrichor and more comforting warm notes. The incense smokiness if what separates this oil to me. It gets so potent that it starts to remind me of the smokiness of Borneo Qi from Jinkoh Store. The combination of the damp jungle and coffee with the smoke reads very sour to me though. It doesn’t smell like a sour fermentation but more like a spiced sour. Not sure how to explain it but made the later parts of the wearing not very pleasant. Weird because when the spiced incense notes are presented neat in Borneo Qi I’m head over heels.

Just swiped on Burma (SQ) about 30 minutes ago. From context clues this seems to be a Burmese oil from Sultan Qaboos’ collection. Not sure the year or distillation or really anything about this oil. The opening is one of the strongest densest blasts of aroma I’ve had in an oil so far. Not quite “piercing” as some of the other oils I’ve tried, but dense. There’s many different notes dripping into your nose here. A slight soaked sour funk backed up by a deep animalic hay smell. Has the sensation of a zoo or barnyard from the bitterness of it all. Slight acetone purple syrup. Starting to notice some animal hide leather coming to the forefront too. This oil feels like it’s wearing you.

Edit: as I was tossing around in bed Burma (SQ) was shifting to a highly resinous, leathery Hindi type profile. Potent as all hell. Definitely hay and animal hide heavy, with rich bubbling oud resin flowing from the walls of this barn.

well now gulf being like hell so oud season are off , now everyone in us or europe can attack royalty oud 😛
Not necessarily. It’s over 40c here in Qatar but I’m still wearing my oud.
I got it as a gift from my in-laws years ago, I’m not sure what it is but it seems like a classic, thick, fermented Indian oud that smells a bit too much at the start, almost like burned rubber, but it mellows out very nicely, I’m wearing it with a swipe of Taifi rose from a local seller I deal with.

The only type of oud I wouldn’t wear in the summer is ouds with a pronounced musky or fecal notes.
Try oud in the summer! You’d be surprised and you might even like it

I just applied a swipe of Imphal Imperiale (Manipur 2021) from An Najwa. To my nose this smells like a quality specimen that fits the Indian agallocha profile nicely, presenting a balance of leathery, fermented, soapy and waxy facets of oud along with some dry woody and spicy layers in the top and mid notes.

I don't feel like a connoisseur of Hindi / Indian agallocha at all so I find it hard to evaluate these types of oils beyond describing scent notes. There is a broad similarity that they share but then so much variation in the fermentation/ soak and related accessory notes... i find myself at a loss and I don't feel like i have the training to distinguish wild from mature plantation or top shelf from average for this category of oud. Likewise, i don't know if this smells typical for the Manipur region or not...

In a nutshell, this smells like authentic Indian agallocha oil from wood that has been given a fair soak. I would love to hear a Hindi lover's take on this oil.

Imperial Oud - Tinsukia

What a pleasure it is to try out some IO oils! This is an Assam/Arunacha Hindi oil with serious potency. Dank old resinous woods, sour vinegar like dark berries, and a hefty base of raw leather. Beautiful Hindi Oil that checks all the boxes for me, with an added touch of syrupy berry sweetness to set it apart.

EO Kannan Koh golden sweet oleoresin with a honey-like quality poured over red and purple flowers, a slight zestiness in the opening, and an almost Gyrinops-like dry down. A bright and sweet Malay in the veins of Oud Sultani and Berkilau. They could be sisters.

Oriscent Kyara Koutan serious oil. Stern Burmese with a Kōdō-like aesthetic. Dry wood fumigating at low heat. Notes of freshly ground coffee, unsweet cocoa powder, tree bark, slight earthiness, and slight shades of green. Very potent also and textured where I can almost feel it in the back of my throat.
Today the coffee and cocoa notes are stronger than usual. I need to wear it once side-by-side with Oud Mostafa 2021 to better grasp the different ways these two showcase those cocoa-like facets. They sure feel very different. Koutan is like that old Chinese geezer that doesn't like guests while Mostafa is like the kind-hearted Muslim that loves having you as his company.

You always remind me to give the old oriscents a go! A dab of the oriscent china exclusive on my forearm. From Hainan i believe. Rich, phenolic and sweet, iron oxide / metal, peat moss, more than a little bit of laos style funk, a little sour-fuzz in there somewhere. Smells like a love child of lao and malaysian maybe - it has that dark, fermented, funky.

Doesn't smell anything like sinensis or hainan oils in my stash, don't know what other species it might be. it could be that the intense fermentation changed the characteristic of the oil and there is a sinensis in there somewhere. High laos style ferment is not a profile i crave, but i am happy to have the oil in my stash for sure as another variation on the fermented oud theme. I can definitely see why someone who loves fermented oud - lao, hindi - might find this to be pretty collectible. The ferment is a little peaty, a little swampy, a little lactic.

The lactic ferment is not something i am crazy about - still have not acquired the taste even though it is part of the profile of some pretty remarkable oils

I also put on a dab of the Pursat from mesoud - this is the regular not artisanal distillation. I spent a fair amount of time sifting through thai oils maybe 8-10 years ago, and this was what I was looking for - a neutral, clean, honeysweet crassna with no funk, sour pungent notes, bug notes, etc.. should have been hunting cambodi but the lore at the time was that true cambodi was not available much anymore

I get just a hint of lactic ferment note but it is almost subliminal. In a way, this type of oil is missing some of what makes oud oud for me - no bitterness, no phenolic notes, no spice or pepper or ancient resin - just simple sugary with that crassna signature scent that I struggle to relate to anything else. I love the style of oud however, in spite of the absence of more robust notes i associate with other regions.

This is close to CK not in scent, but in terms of the simple candylike clarity of the opening. The ck goes bittersweet if it is good and this goes more sunbleached white wood. I'm really having to watch what I spend my fragrance money on but if I had a surplus I would definitely add another bottle of this to my collection.

I am a big IO fan. Those guys (hi, guys) turned me on to the potential of sinensis / hainan distillates and co2 oils, and sent me a few samples that were super educational at the time. The one i purchased was Super Hoi An which is MY F€#%ING JAM and should have just loaded up on that. That oil is the poster child of punching high for its weight.

I like it so much that I almost never wear it. It all makes sense somehow.... I don't wanna talk about it haha

Top tier bliss .
1.Vietnam Royal -FO this oil was from ha tinh , medicinal bitter incense goodness , would recommend as a reference oil . Long lasting oil with nice scent progression from the medicinal bitterness to lingering incense bitterness .
2-veitnan Special k AA (from the same region from the oil above) this oil is from a sample , the opening is very similar to VR but ends with less bitterness and more rounded peppery and tea like .
3-imagination by oud tripua - If you love and search for top tier indian oils , then search no further than this oil , golden mentholic hay with 0% offensive notes , with a hint of medicinal bitterness , very uplifting
Where can we get this vietnam royal oil? Thank you

Today is a special day in Sri Lanka.

Suriranka EO, Ravana and Savera of Pintana.

The last two are more typical of Sri Lankan oils, clean, smooth, with different phases that change smoothly while keeping the soul of Silany oils.

As for Suriranka, it has a profile that reminds me a lot of certain Borneo oils in the opening, a peppery and spicy side that lasts a good half hour, then joins the oils of Sri Lanka in a more classic profile.

This type of oil is perfect in hot weather like here in Medina.
