Laith (ASO): A "wild Cambodian oudh, cooked Chinese style in China". It is one of the few Cambodians I like. Hint of ripe fruit, with medicinal bitter and a bit of camphorous opening. There is also leather, (not too much) barn, beeswax, and some spices. Ends with a deep, resinous incense. Essentially, a powerful oil without any show-off. This is what I would call a sophisticate.

Checked in with hands down the single most profound imperial oud oil to date: hainan ultima. The name is accurate. This is THE ultimate. I personally see this above Ensar’s hailam Ltd. hailam is more zoomed in and the focus is on the green delicate bittersweet kinamic note. Hainan ultima is the whole picture. One mighty fine oil that is soul stirring and makes one go wow!

Too bad I don’t enjoy wearing sinesis oils as a scent. I sure do love enjoying them as a study oil and to meditate.

Nha trang ultima is a very fine oil indeed as well. Respectfully not in the league of Hainan though and the profile is that of younger Vietnamese wood. High quality oil from less high grade wood is what my nose tells me. Easily beats some of my other favorite Vietnamese oils like kenmei, wanmei and vsk.

The other day I wore the beast otherwise known as Adan. Winter savory and tarragon sautés in brown better. Thickest and deepest amber honey note (minus the sweetness) added to the mix. Another wow oil. Still chuckfull of youthful notes and teenage temperament. I have high hopes for its future. Still a bit too powerful for me to regularly wear these days.

Lastly in an attempt to save my last bit of green papua as much as I can, I wore papuamantan. It is not a replacement. The profile opens with maroke notes that only lasts for a minute or so before it goes very dark green note. Like port moresbey. The sweetness and baking spice notes of GP are not really at play here, instead a very old antique vibe like encens royale or tigerwood Royle takes the center stage. A lovely oil but is no GP

Hate to be a broken record but super hoi an again for me. In fact, had to buy a second bottle. In my opinion, this is really all you could ask for in quality at this price range. I love it, my kid loves it, the stuff just smells like high end Japanese aloeswood incense, reminiscent of kyara and some other Rikoku woods. Can’t believe I get to smell like this. Every stage of the oil’s development smells like top notch agarwood - all the way to the very tip of its tail. Nice long duration.

There was a thread here - what would you do with $1000 right now. Well I’d buy at least two bottles of this stuff, to start.

Can’t agree with you more.
It’s a fine and dandy oil.

Green Papua is right up there at the top for me too, and I agree that Papuamantan wasn’t it. Seemed too thin whereas GP keeps on kicking for hours. Port Papua I felt was a close approximation of it though. I only bought a sample before it was gone but I use it as an alternate for GP in my rotation to keep my supply from depleting too quickly. So maybe keep an eye out for someone selling a bit of that if you’re getting low and need to replenish your Papua fix.

Oud Hindi Shahjahan by IO: Now it is fully oudy, no auxiliary notes that were there when it was launched last year. Now no more light notes of any kind, but perfect Agallocha in each waft.

Central Asian Deer Musk (from Ulugbek) & Mysore Santal 2014 (from IO) Maceration: I had worn Shahjahan on moustache. And after two hours swiped this Musk maceration. Then the fragrance picture got completed.

Maceration is strong enough, but I miss the beauty that I experience in Mysore Santal 2002 maceration.

Sumatra benzoin is rather pleasant. Not so crazy about Siam benzoin though - that stuff packs a punch.

Strange how different our preferences can be. Most people seem to love Green Papua but for me it is the opposite. I thought it would grow on me with time but the last time I wore it not only did I not enjoy it, I found it to be even unpleasant. I seem to like it less and less after each swipe.

You are right, dear Grega. Preference! In 2017, I loved this oil a lot. But now I am fed up with its linear and monotonous scent. It doesn't smell Oud to me anymore. It smells that much green and foresty to me I fear someday it might not become Khus:Roflmao::Roflmao::Roflmao:. But quality wise, it is exceptional.
I use it in making my personal blends.

Original green papua or the second one? I have the old one. It is one of the few oud oils that seemed to go bad over time. I ended up mixing it with alcohol to try to prevent its continued transformation.
