Rose otto is just so darn intense for me...even nauseating as so many other non oud and sandalwood EO oils are to me. (One day I will have to wrap my nose around so primo blue lotus everyone goes nuts over)...if I try and combine RO with anything it just smothers it like a wet blanket. A good musk?, mysore? , or even lighter oud? WHAT OUD? WHERE DID IT GO? It would just get gobbled up. The only exception is if you have some real serious high grade allogocha....like Ensars Red Bhutan! Maybe in a ratio of 4 or even 5/1 oud to rose that would be a beautiful beast to ride!
I only put two drops of rose oil in a 2.5 ml of sandalwood so that both can mingle without the rose dominating. Then the blend gets magical :Inlove:

Wearing Al Shareef II. One of my favorites. Balance and depth. I read that it smells barny, almost hindi to some but I am somewhat reminded of thai oils. I honestly don't get the barn but a mist of complex notes that are very hard to decipher. It is the richness of it that I love the most, the seductiveness of ripe fruits and spices (a shimmering peppery note) and certain leathery notes that however smell different than their hindi cousins. I think I love rich ouds the most (although an occasional Alamin - Habzoud does hit the spot very nicely). I am reminded of Ensar's Khmer Xtreme which is my favorite Ensar offering I have tried (thx Joe! It has become my favorite of all the samples you sent me and in my top three ever), even if these are different regions. I am also reminded of IO's Hoi An (again different region but the play of scents is similar from memory) but the ASO is much closer aligned to my tastes.

I wonder if it's the soak time and ultimate fermentation that lends ASII some of its richness but also moderate funk that some might call barn.

Could be, could very well be. 😀 Waiting for Al Shareef to weigh in...
Am still enjoying the ASO II, the drydown is always wonderful and it looses those surface "thai vibes".

Friday: AWI East Timor Root Sandalwood. Multiple swipes on beard, clothing and headgear. Earthy, cream-soda elixer.

Saturday: FO Hindi Asli. True wear, with mutiple swipes for beard, clothing, and behind the ears. In this brisk air, I keep getting whiffs of it, even today (Sunday). Bittersweet cacao on tarry, black leather that morphs into candied tobacco, and freshly baked yellow cake.

ASO Hudhayl from the signature sample set I just received. Holy MOLEY. I want a bottle.

Soooo smooth and very classy. Best Hindi I've smelt so far.
How is that set? I saw it and I must say, it's so tempting given the variety. I can't recall if I mentioned this before, but does anyone else add perfumer's alcohol to their thickened sample sizes to dilute and coax the last bit of goodness out of the bottle? I do this fairly regularly. I've got the pre-reformulation ASAQ 100 year old mixed with this and it smells great and extended what I had left. I'm wearing that right now, and it is such a nice scent.

Rose otto takes over whatever you blend it in if it is not added sparingly. I made this mistake when I blended with oud, and it was literally 3 drops of rose otto to one ml of oud. It still smells nice, but it is rosy.

whoops, I quoted the wrong post, was meant to be this:
