It's 11am and I've had on 4 oils...!

Started the morning with an under the chin swipe of Imperial Oud - Yunan Imperial- can't think how this stacks up against the Yunan Vintage I'd recently bought, but very nice. Weirdly with my morning swipes I can smell the oud for an hour or so and then can't notice it. If I swipe it on my arm I generally notice them for 6+hrs throughout the day

Now,

Imperial Oud - Hainan Imperial
On the other hand is a Hainan oil from Mellifluence which I wanted to compare to the IO, but erm I won't here - I've not long applied them and am trying to not sit at work smelling my hands like a madman 😅

I gave my colleague a smell of both oils from my hand and he recoiled a little saying "oooh I don't like that!"

My third is Imperial Oud - Nagaland Imperial. WTF. This is barn galore and I don't recall it being as such. I even found a post from me at the end of the year,

IO Nagaland Imperial; totally non-Hindi, feels yellow in profile. Sweet, no spices and has perhaps a honey-type feel to it.

OK ....it's settling a bit into the above description, but still funk for days at first swipe! I get weirdly unacclimatised to Hindis

Getting real wild today. Mailman dropped off Jamaal just now!

It’s interesting how both Ukupan Kaya and Jamaal exhibit musky qualities. Ukupan Kaya has a drydown reminiscent of the opening of Jamaal which I find oddly fascinating. Jamaal has the funk turned up just a bit with exciting spices like black pepper and cumin laced woodiness. I’m only 20 minutes into the wearing so I can’t comment more but I’m excited to see where this goes.

edit

this is much more fecal/musky than I anticipated. It seems that the musk is amplifying on my skin. LOTS of musk so far. Almost traditional Hindi territory now.

second edit

I think my expectations got in the way of this oil. For those who have tried this did you experience heavy barn notes? I get straight up animalic leather with slight cow pasture/wet hay vibes in the heart. I’m trying to hold out for something different but I can’t make it past the hour mark before scrubbing it off.
Lol, bro are you sure it's Jamaal?

Beccariana by Imperial Oud

Sweet, nutty (cream + wood) diesel. Mellows out in the first 30 mins or so, and spicy cinnamon notes begin to bubble up as the diesel settles down. Dries down into a sour, freshly zested Meyer lemon peel scent - if you're unfamiliar with Meyer lemon, try to imagine a mandarin orange mixed 50/50 with a common lemon. Like the sour bits of a lemon candy, without any sweetness. Green notes come in on the late drydown, as if lemon rind and leaves were co-distilled together with a hint of evergreen.

I like it!

Revisiting some of the oud oils from Al Hashimi

Went for Siam 2 today.
It punches right into my face with its strong oudiness. There are wood, scotch, tangy fruits, ripe fruits.

I didn't like it before but I like it now. It's easy to love, an enjoyable one

How do you like Lingaraja? It gets the most discussion on this board of their current oils. Is it just because it’s been a mainstay for a while. Or is it one of the best they’ve got going?

I’ve been thinking about ordering 1g is why I ask.
personally i love it ,the smell is amazing , very nice guava , banana peel, oceanic , little tropical creamy sandal notes , sweet kind ...smell is very very nice but last 1h max on me...worth any penny , for the price is 12/10

Kagaku by Elixir Attar
This is an underrated gem, it reminds me a lot of Hainan Imperiale from IO! It has the same nutty scent profile, maybe a bit fresher but the two oils have pretty similar vibes. Also, both oils were distilled from wild Hainan Sinensis wood. At $60/g, price-quality wise Kagaku is a steal!

I agree. Highly underrated and I love that Ahmed is open about redistilling lower quality oils in order to make something “better” AND a team of scientists are doing it no less. I love that.

Kagaku reminds me of Hailam Kilam without the Kinam notes. It hits way above $60 gram.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to give a shout-out to Marius over at Jinkoh Store.

This Hong Kong distillation is seriously an incredible oil. It reminds me of different facets of many different origins. Honied cinnamon apple as if it were Laotian, bitter herbs and wood if it were from Ha Tinh, creamy butter/vanilla like a classic Borneo....it’s such a kaleidoscope, and punches way above its price point.

Has anyone else tried this? What are your thoughts?

Oud Santal (Co-distillation) by Tyson:
Two years before I got a sample from Tyson. A co-distillation of Oud and Mysore Snadal. I really loved it when I sniffed it first time. Diametrically a new and novel experience it had been. Today I wore it, and now it is a perfect fragrance. This aroma cannot be achieved through blending Oud and Santal oils.
Top notes are full of Oud, refined and refined and refined. And heart and base notes have sweet Santal tone, and both Oud and Santal project their beauty.

Seldom is a serious, rare oil like this so full of sunlight, happy chords AND the complexity sufficient to keep your nose interested. I need time with it.
