Habzoud - Aljanah

A storm passed over Milan for a couple of hours and now the sun is coming back out and heating the ground while a cool breeze remains. The golden hay smell of this oil matches the moment perfectly. There's a bright sunshine in that golden element that takes my imagination to flaxen fields and away from concrete streets.

I am new to Oud as well and I was thinking about getting some of the Santosa for myself. 😉 How is the “Santosa” Oud from Ensar compared to his other oils? Since I know Ensar makes some fantastic Oud oils, I was wondering what it smells like? Is the Santosa more of an uplifting/energizing or more relaxing Oud oil. Thanks.
My personal POV is that Ensar's entry level oils smell nice, but aren't necessarily representative of what can be accomplished with a higher grade / price point of oud. They generally skew quite sweet and relaxing, and aren't bad if that's what you're after. I started with EO's entry level ouds myself, and have nothing against them; I'm just more aware of the diversity of oud scents and suppliers now.

Habzoud's Zamarad 2, Al Hashimi's Lindaraja and Al Shareef's Halawa are within the same ballpark from a pricing perspective ($125-$185 for 2.5-3g), but are superior options if you want a better portrayal of what can be done with oud at higher price brackets.

Very well said.

Which Ouds that you mentioned have more of a uplifting effect? The first Pure Oud I tried yesterday was “Cambodian Oud” from scent salim, and it made me kinda spaced out. I have only had Oud in Attar blends from Maison Anthony Marmin before this. Is this a common effect of pure Oud?

If I interpret uplifting to mean fizzy and euphoric, I'd say the following:

Zamarad 2 = The most fizzy and nose tickling of the lot, with some nice incensey vibes too
Halawa = More metallic, green, and spicy. A more meditative scent.
Lindaraja = A total oddity, lots of banana, with a shade of turpentine and a great pollen/beeswax finish

I deeply enjoy oud, but am not entirely sold on the notion that it's a mood enhancer from a phytochemical point of view - I'm tempted to say the deep and circular breathing I do while sniffing oud has a greater physiological and psychological impact than the scent itself. But, that's just me.

Al Hashimi - Algara (ooof, super deep and hitting all the right spots) and HabzOud - Ghazal (*really* good, calming, cool, bright, dancing).

I agree with this too - you can get a good effect but just this type of breathing alone without any scent.

Inspired me to swipe Algara. Deep is the word, yes. Honestly, I was a little disappointed by this oil when I first got it, finding it light and a little linear. Definitely don’t feel that way anymore. It’s gone beyond the cocoa powder I picked up from it before and into chocolate oud.

Just swiped the new Malaysian oil ‘Jinko Kurozato’ from Jinkoh Store

The name literally means “blackened sugar” so of course it has this blackened sugar and spiced cola vibe that hits right between your eyes. It’s rich, fuzzy and SWEET. Yet it’s natural aura keeps the sweetness from feeling cloying. This is literally a complete perfume in its own right and I know the words “office friendly” get thrown around a lot but this to me is the sweet that we all want to smell instead of ethyl maltol.

After a few minutes this reminds me of Dr. Pepper syrup with a hefty dose of molasses. I haven’t tried a lot of high end oils but the more well versed I become in the mid-range the more I fall in love with these heavy hitters. So far Habzoud, Al-Hashimi and now Jinko Store are by far changing the game for affordable top shelf oils.

So this morning I woke up and decided to do a second wearing of Jinko Kurozato. I get more blue florals and green jungle spices in the heart. The opening is still intensely sweet but it’s simmered down a bit now that I’ve gotten used to it. Honestly this is exactly what I want oud to smell like.

Since I couldn’t help myself I also swiped Pusong Qi also by Jinko Store.

This is the best Laotian oil I’ve smelled. I get a lot of woodsy spices and cinnamon along with white florals and juicy champaca vibes. You know you’re smelling sinensis but it has this lucid Kinamic aura to it that completely hits above its price. It also has the same Kinam vibes of Siam 4K where it’s super buzzy, bitter florals and tongue numbing ouddyness. Pusong Qi is smooth, crystal clear and just glows on your skin.
