revisiting Emperor of Kedah this morning

This time I still smell cherry cola there but I smell deep dark honey more than anything. It's like sidr and buckwheat honeys. After inhaling deeply for a few minutes, it seems like I've gone overboard.

Smelling these sweet oils is a good substitute to eating sweets themselves ... no danger of diabetes here.

An hour in, I smell something "floral" and this could be the so-called "purple flowers" that some reviewers mention. I had a hard time using those words because the only fragrant purple flowers I've smelled are violets and it doesn't smell like that. I could see this floral aroma being a hypothetical dark flower. Seeing it in that theoretical window allows me to better describe it and accept those descriptions.

edit: cherries/cola/honey/floral .... it's all blending into an indistinct conceptual purple cloaking me like an emperor's robe.

I think with Oud it’s best to understand these terms related to Oud and Oud only. Like no one actually smells florals in Oud but it’s like a “floral” tinted lens through which we experience the Oud. Kind of how you smell berries or cherries but it doesn’t really smell like either in any capacity but it brings to mind those descriptors. I struggle with purple too because to me purple is aromas like lavender, violet, iris/orris, grape etc but certain oils like Emperor of Kedah or Purple Kinam for instance produces a purple effect in my mind’s eye. It’s more so synesthesia than an aroma.

habzoud pursat maliki-
I got rich resins amongst a smooth wood with light incense smoke I get a bit of the earthy, resinous vibe as well, ill try and update later on but most likely will revisit again on the weekend in the morning with a clean mind and nose and as a pure oud noob it hard for me to put my thoughts into words for now but this smells very different to the other cambodi I tried from marius this one doesn't have the fruity nectar to it for me its more zen and meditative

TajOud M-222

Beautiful spicy Hindi oud, glazed with sweet-honey, smooth spices (cardamom, clove, cinnamon, etc.), incense, florals, and everything intertwined with the warmth of Hindi oud in a very elegant fashion.
Dry down is just sweet, like so sweet I want to lick my hand, like honey glazed on fruits, bread and spices. 🥞🍯🍒

Melliphluence Chinese Hainan Oud ... under the ear and under the beard, on left forehand as well / why not dab to excess.

It smells like a 50/50 sorghum and maple syrup blend with a brighter and more woody tone. Soft sumo orange and green apple turn to a resinous dry down. For me, this is the floor on a Chinese oud after which you might assume that you don't like the region before spending more money to confirm.

There are much better oils available but they cost 2x as much. Abdullah delivers.

Hello Ouddicts
Today I swiped Guru Aromatix oils:
Malinau oil
Manipur oil « Decadence »

JS Cambodi essenza
The oud lab Hutan Hijau
Habz Zamarad 2

Malinau oil opening with powdery flower lightly like Borneo Kin , and moving quickly to a pure oceanic Indonesian oil and it’s amazingly close to Al Shareef Nusa ! Salty bitterness with an ocean breeze, resinous wood, and fresh dry wood shavings ! Light vanilla powder with clean Smell !
I am seriously surprised by this very affordable oil which can easily be the sister of Nusa with more nuances !

Manipur Decadence is a clean Hindi with nice complexity, not clean as Al janah series or Jinkoh lokma … but still clean !
I didn’t pick up the notes yet as I don’t identify the scent with this oil …
This oil change a lot and give me few different faces of Hindi DNA !

Cambodi essenza is at this moment my favorite Cambodian oil…
It remind me VSK, Pursat QI, Kinabang and even Pursat 4k…
Gourmand opening similar to Kinabang with sour cream and buttery berries with light and clean leathery vibe that I get in VSK , a sweetness that I find in Pursat QI , and a bittersweet Kinamic scent I get in Kinabang and Pursat 4k or even lightly Koh Kong special k …
Amazing oil Again !

Zamarad 2 is just beautiful … I can’t imagine how was the first version …

Hutan Hijau is the father of Zamarad 2 …
More resinous and more serious …
Zamarad is brighter, green and Hutan Hijau is darker with some brown color in the smell … so nice oil !

Oud oils are soo beautiful Mashallah…
I wish you a Gooud swipe of the day Ouddicts 🙂

A swipe of Pursat Qi next to a 2x swipe of Rose SQ.

The combination is both soothing and decadent. I might need to blend these to create a signature rose/oud.

Been traveling with only a few oils at my disposal but really coming around to a strong love for Ejayb’s cultivated Kinam oil. Nice stuff. Also AA Lao Gold has a nice little kick to it.

On my birthday I ordered Playboy Sultan and Imphal Ateek 1949 from RPP. I really love Brunei Oud and I’ve never smelled an old Burmese oil with that kind of age on it. So I’m looking forward to trying them. Anyone here have any experience with either of these oils?
