Emperor of Pursat from the Jinkoh Store

A slight oudy funkiness in the opening leads to mango peel and sunshine. That sweet yellow lingers but then gets enhanced with a bittersweet lemon peal modification. Then a resinous berry dry-down to compliment the mango peel and bittersweet kinamic citrus that are still present through the end.

I'm interested to see what my friend who attends the Mango festival in Jizan thinks of this one. I'll have to wear it next time I visit.

Today I'm wearing Naga Rouge from Oudbar. Distilled by "Silas."

This is such a fascinating oil for me, because immediately upon application, I get an intense, deep, rich chocolatey smell that specifically smells like Tootsie Rolls (the American candy). For the non-Americans here, Tootsie Rolls are an "old time" candy that is supposed to approximate the taste of chocolate but clearly is not made with actual chocolate. So, in effect, I get a curious synthetic chocolate note from Naga Rouge.

Then, as the oil dries down, the 'Tootsie Roll' notes disappear and I get a powerful, intense, buzzy note that specifically reminds me of a small plastic toy fresh from a plastic bag — in other words, the kind of toy you'd get from a kids meal at McDonalds, or something like that. I haven't smelled this scent in decades.

As it dries further, it develops into a rich, woodsy, smokey "typical" oud scent.

Although both notes that I detect on this oud remind me of synthetic scents, I'm nonetheless totally enamored with this oil. It's bizarre and compelling. It's truly remarkable that these kinds of scents come from a natural product.

What kind of scent does it have? Any adjectives come to mind? Love a good kalimantan oud. What’s the cost per 1/4 tola? Thanks

My SOD: Grandawood “triple happiness” sinensis co2. Pronounced floral violet top note reminding me of cultivated kinam oil. Has some “salivary” notes (thank you for this awful but fitting adjective, kyarazen) that I can live without in the base note but they pass. The overall impression is kinam like, based on my understanding. Doesn’t smell like kinam but has some of the notes that kinam and kyara wood have albeit in a coarse form.

Grandawood oils aren’t “epic” but there are two that are worth sampling. One is “triple happiness” and the other is “warming sun”. The latter has a nice spicy note for a distilled sinensis and I think it will age well.

If you like your sinensis heavily fermented, their “peated oud” hits like a distilled oil and is funky (to a fault I think).

If you are voted the grandawood cultivated sampler is amusing and not a bad deal for the price. I didn’t find myself wanting to buy these oils but I’m glad I have the sample set. Interesting to see the different profiles one distiller can cook up.

I have to write them down or I'll forget five minutes ago. Yes.
Malawi opens very bright, somewhat fruity top notes are detected with a slight medicinal touch that lasts only a short time, dry blond wood and undertone of semi sweet grasses. As a no soak oil, hydro distilled in Stainless it doesn’t have an animalic fermented punch, rather is a smooth wearing with a creamy somewhat nutty drydown.

As I allowed myself to drift off with the scent softly reaching my nose I had a memory of my grandmother’s country home with Dutch doors and old creaky wooden floors, rustic odors, sunlight sneaking past old glass and half drawn curtains on a late Autumn afternoon.
My shot

Tigetwood Oudh by EO.
Not really enamored with this. Opens very chemically and has not done much when applied to clothes recently.
Dab on my skin today and not impressed.
One dimensional comes to mind.
☹️
