Ant-Teek 2016 RPP

One thing I got from chatting with JK is that he is not one to seek out “performance” alone. He seems much more interested in the character that comes from the subtle nuances of an oud oil or wood. It’s easy to chase the instant gratification of a loud oud oil that explodes from the first second you apply it even at the cost of linearity. But, more fulfilling, is an oil that comes alive over time. That blooms and dies just like everything else in our world. This oil can take you on that journey.

Opening is laden with sweet vanilla, subtle cloves and dry old wood. Over time, the old wood smell develops and the vanilla softens. It becomes less overtly sweet and in turn becomes slightly leathery. A jammy peach facet slowly builds. On the dry-down a bee’s wax note reminiscent of a sinensis oud lingers along with an old parchment note that reminds of the old wood character from earlier in the development. Beautiful stuff!

Finally - someone starting to “get” it! 🤯🎯

Appreciate the kind words 🥰🙏🏼

Ensar Oud - Green papua

Bitter, herbal and wet earth on the opening. Over time dry wood, drier earthy notes and pepper come out. Dry and yet somewhat fresh with a slight mentholic note. I think it’s a great Papuan oil for the cost.
The original was ~ $105 if I recall - it was a budget offering

Mine smelled good at first, and had a nice diffusive pepper note that caught the attention of all of my students one day when I had the bottle in my bag. Either that peppery molecule somehow escaped, or chemically changed, or I became extremely desensitized to it… a month later and the peppery opening was not there as far as I could tell. No trace of the pepper every time I revisit the oil.

After while it started to develop a little bit of an “unwashed person” scent so I mixed it 50:50 with alcohol in the hopes it might somehow prevent the smell from developing further.

Very interesting story, I heard it reacts differently on different people, but never with this much detail.

Haha wow! That’s really too bad. There are definitely better papuan ouds out there in my opinion… like Rising Phoenix’s Asiki Boven. Beautiful stuff. Initially thought it wasn’t to my taste but it has really grown on me. It’s still a young oil too… so much potential.

After work this evening I applied ASO - Al Malek Al Kalakassi.

High grade, traditionally distilled Hindi Oud is probably my favourite scent in the world.

I’ve collected many ASO Hindi’s plus also own / sampled countless others from various vendors over the last few years, Al Malek Al Kalakassi is in the top 3 of all.

Insanely beautiful top notes of pristine barn, tropical fruits, florals, a powdery nuance which gives way to a plump base of oozing Oudh resin; mature sweetness, amber, leather, hay, flowers. The Royal ASO Hindi signature. Truely blessed to experience Oud of this calibre!

Asiki Boven - Rising Phoenix

Quickly starting to become one of my favourite oils in my collection. Unfortunately I only have a small amount! I’m hoping Rising Phoenix comes out with other ouds distilled using this method… because this is one heck of a complex oil.

So initially it is a blast of vanilla, green notes and cloves. The green notes are very fresh. It has a TON of “lift” and a mentholic character that opens your sinuses a bit. It is also… for lack of a better word just very woody and a fresh woody at that. The opposite of “dry” it’s like a forest after a hard rain with the humidity still lingering. There are some interesting florals in here as well.. hard to pinpoint exactly (I kind of thought marigold at first actually) it really smells like walking into a greenhouse in the summer. The drydown is slightly earthy and the florals dry out as well. Some bitter tannic quality is detectable. Between the bitterness and the dry florals it reminds me a bit of potpourri. This oil is like sitting by a pond in a lush garden on a humid day.

It’s really an oud-lover’s oil though… this was not one I appreciated a few weeks back. But since I have been using Oud oils multiple times per week now it is one I have been craving and I find myself sniffing from the bottle from time to time.

I can’t wait to see what else JK does with his vacuum distillation operation. If this oil is as complex as it is because of that distillation method I think there is some real promise here!

Edit: oh also, this is the first oil that I have applied where I felt psychoactive effects. I always apply oud oils after I take a cold shower in the morning. And after applying this oil I immediately became aware of the tension in my shoulders… this is going to sound a little crazy but, it was almost like the mentholic/sinus-opening aspect of this oil was “working” on that area (I apply the oil to my forearms and clavicle) .. fun anecdote. Could be all in my head but, at the end of the day, what about our experience is not in our heads?

Jinkoh store - Emperor of Pursat
WoW! How should I describe it? It starts complex, clean, sweet, spicy, dry and bitter. It had nuances of the cultivated Kinam I heated from Kangiiten. Its like I am heating this kinam again with a red twist of a cambodian profile (red resins, cinnamon). So delicious! I wanna bite my hand but then I wont be able to text this 😆

[Ouddict.com] Oud of the Day

Brother, I totally agree! I’m glad to see someone else talking about this oil because I’ve been enjoying this one immensely.
Sparkling bitter floral Kinam right off the top! Ripe red fruits, citrus, aniseed, the cleanest Crassna Oud resin, nuances of Chinese Sinensis, also. Talk about mind buzz!
