I’m waiting for somebody to post a review of the $14,000 kinam oil/extract Al Sharif recently added to their lineup!
When I received that newsletter in my email from Al Shareef, I hurriedly opened the link to see how a Japanese oud oil would sound (As I already know that Yabaan means Japanese in Arabic) and then read the whole description. WOW! The details were so fascinating .. (Till then I didn't have a look at the price) .. but one word was keep appearing and giving me some alarms. And the word was Kyara. 17 times! Then I looked up at the screen and the price smiled back at me. $14K! Thank You!

Now I have applied a filter in my email. If the word kyara/kynam appears in the subject line or body of the email, be it from any vendor it will simply send the email to Archive section. Will not be deleting it though, may be for some light reading some time later.

For the price ,I’d buy a round trip plane ticket to Australia, book a 5 star hotel, hopefully be granted permission to visit Al Shareef and just smell the oil off the dipstick lol..
or just wait for the perfume.

I just wouldn’t be able to put something so expensive on my skin knowing that it’ll be washed off sooner or later . But to those that can afford it man I’m happy for you.

Anyone know how much lam’ah was retailing for? I think wood prices have gone up considerably since then.

Kinam is cheap these days with all the cultivated stuff. It’s going to become to new Thai! ;o) the key thing is to filter anything with the word “wild“.

And I know that would eliminate far too many lower strata oils I’m just kidding. “Wild” and “kyara” in the same sentence is the thing to filter out.

And when it comes to wild kyara or products extracted from it really any price is reasonable depending on the quality of the originating material.

I mean I’m sure if you distilled truly top shelf Kyara and had a generous 2% yield and managed to squeeze out 3 grams of oil you’d have to sell it for $150,000 or something to recoup costs. Or is my mental math a mess?

$14000 sounds like a deal?

If I apply even a dab of an oil of that price, it better make me get high immediately and those around me should become weak in their knees, lose their mind, perplexed at the insanely gorgeous fragrance they are inhaling and subservient to me for allowing them to smell something so divine.

I know you’re kidding around but I think the point of an oil like this is not so much that its effect on anybody is that much better (like $12000 extra mind buzz!) but really to satisfy collectors who have lots of money and want to see what a wild kyara extract is like or add something like this to the collection.

Doesn’t seem any more proportionally absurd than the $1000 per gram wood that presumably would be used to make something like that.

2% yield from $1000/gram wood would require $150,000 of raw material to make 3g of oil.

I was thinking 3 g of kyara oil would be more like $80,000 or more

I’m not trying to justify the existence of extreme luxury niche items like this (just saying the pricing fits the crazy market). It’s like private jets or maseratis - it’s outside of my world and I have mixed feelings about it for sure only some of which are sour grapes.

1. 1000/gm may not be accurate pricing if the kynam is acquired at wholesale pricing and in bulk quantity.
2. This is not pure oil made via hydrodistillation alone. He used hydro + extraction. So I am guessing that the yield must be much higher than the usual 1-2% expected of agarwoods.
3. Lastly, because of #2, I do not think this is pure kynam OIL. I am guessing that it is oil PLUS resin combination.

"We tested different methods to explore what brings the best representation of Kyara Wood to life in Oil form finding a combo-distillation + extraction method yielded the best results. YABAAN, our Kyara Oil of 2022 was born by employing the state of the art in distillation hardware. Utilising combinational distillation which involves hydro distillation principles forming part of the process and extraction principles that employs Oudh oil to further break down the Kyara resin and wood to extract the beautiful lingering heart and base notes of Kyara. Through this innovative method we capture the wholesome scent of Kyara, not just as an essential oil but as one would experience in a kodo session."

Ultimately, it is a luxury product for a very very small market. I have ZERO desire of owning it 😀 but I am sure that some will find the product worth every penny 🙂 It is quite a feat nonetheless!

2x Vietnamese oils - Viet Zephyr by Imperial Oud and Vietnamese by Royal Bengal Ouds.
Really good, both are organic oils but very smooth, pretty and refined.
The IO oil has always gone congealed, really strange.

I also have a really cheap organic Viet oil by La Maison Khenata which is absolutely superb, think 3g was around $100. Absolute bargain for the quality that it delivers - pushing 4 years old now too and is just splendid.

Vietnamese oils may be one of my favourite profiles.... @Habz786 when are you releasing a Viet oil, bro? 😂

/edit it's so hard to edit a message on this forum using my phone 😡

Habz Hitam Qadeem

This oil is getting me more interested in co-distillation. It really smells like a fusion of classic profiles. The Thai portion, sweet dark berry, really accents and lifts the soil, bitter wood and suede notes I associate with Malay malaccensis, which in turn gives gravity and interest to the Thai. What I'm enjoying above all in it is a vaporous, camphoraceous quality that I have found in several Habz oils and what keeps me glued to his releases.

I swear this oil has a positive effect on my digestion. If I smell it after eating it calms my stomach a lot. I have noticed physiological effects from some oils but with this one it's really pronounced.

Seeniya by Al Hashimi for the evening.

It's an interesting Burmese sinensis oil that I really dig. Lots of citrus sweetness with some deep bitter woody incense, a touch of leather and some vanilla orchid. Wish I had more than a gram lol

AlHindOud Kinabalu Gold in the early morning.
Beautiful, pristine, sweet.. (Sorry for my horrible descriptions of beautiful oud 😂😂😂)
It’s like morning itself greeting me. I have had two occasions when Kinabalu made me emotional when I applied it. It’s so beautiful and pristine!
