Sadly any and all ouds from the late great generous mr Bolton I have, without expection, all reek of a strong amonia/ stale urinal scent. So much so that virtually impossible for me to read the oil behind that note. Glad to see some other oils are clean and showing the telltale aromas of their origin.
I don’t order much from vendors but made an exception last week and I don’t smell any of the notes you describe. Maybe it’s your nose or environment?

Very annoyingly, the oil is leaking...upwards. I had a thread discussing this before (which I can't find) - I've applied today's oud by rubbing the neck of the bottle on my hands. The oil has leaked up into the cap. I think it's an issue with these glass applicators, they don't form a proper seal and then oil somehow leaks out (upwarsd?!). I store all my oils upright, I do bring them to work where they may lay on their side a little, but should never be upside down

I wonder how much oil I've lost because of this...

Very good scent, no barn notes, I've owned it for a year and it's very smooth and golden in texture. I have 4 oils by the brand and all are great 🙂

Green Papua - EO

For whatever reason I think I only tried this once (if at all) when I first got it. Saw it the other day and figured I should check it out! I really enjoy the dark green jungle/forest aroma. There is also some sweetness and even cream which is one of my favorite notes! Unfortunately the cream doesn’t last too long.

Al Hashimi - lindaraja
Since this oil is from the same region I thought I’d check it out too. Beautiful light banana smell and just a clean sweet aroma that is very enjoyable.

Habzoud Hitam qadeem

I was wearing Habzoud Hitam Qadeem while buying a birthday present for my father in law (after application at noon-ish)
He’s a cigar smoker, and usually we buy a few regular boxes at the local shop.
Now, I had to run some errants in the centre, and the shop forwarded me to a specialty cigar shop which was surprisingly closeby. People sat outside, smoking cigars and it struck me that Hitam Qadeem goes so well with cigars! Now, I don’t smoke, but I was wondering if anyone pairs cigars with their oud?

I find coffee and oudh goes well also.

Hi my name is Riaz, I hope your well? I was under the impression that Mr bolton's oils where of a very good quality. I didnt know that they smelt of Ammonia. I was under the impression that he was a master artisan. Does anyone else have the same experience?

Thank you

As I wrote above, I certainly don’t have this experience and I have several of their oils. @Rasoul Salehi you’ve come back after a long hiatus and honestly, given the circumstances, could have thought twice before posting such a sweeping statement 🤦🏻‍♂️. But at least you are consistent, picking up right where you left off.

The only ammonia smell I’ve ever encountered in natural perfumery is from the Himalayan Musk Deer in Sandalwood that I got from Oriscent back in 2006 and 2007. It took years for it to change to a more pleasant note.

My oud of the day is the original version of a well known vintage oud and rose blend except the one I’m wearing is not diluted like the one currently being retailed. I’m currently surrounded by magnificent notes of rose and oud….

Habz Taj Mahal

Now this is a learning experience for me. Initial sniff of Taj Mahal had me thinking they were very similar. Side by side they are quite different. On me, AJ3 is sweeter, nutty and minty, while Taj Mahal is more medicinal, more hay and butter. Knowing that TM is higher quality wood makes since, the aroma is more complex, a bit more funky and more oudy. I find AJ3 more friendly and immediately pleasant, but TM is more interesting as you track its changes. I can confirm the transition from bitter to more sweet over time in TM which Habz mentions in the blurb. At its sweetest it is almost as sweet as AJ3, though it never takes on AJ3's nuttiness (for me).

Ok, I had the same issue with my Areej attar. I made a new o-ring gasket for the top and I seemed to have solved it.

Oil was climbing the glass rod and then allowed to bypass the stock o ring and leak down the thread.
