Gaharu Hutan by Tabeer Oud.
What what what!! I applied this maybe 2hrs ago...and I can still smell it?! :O there may be hope for me, yet

This is a nice profile, an Indonesian oil from Malinau. Kinda vegetative, smooth, somewhat earthy. Was a bit smokey at the start but that's faded back, now. It's not sweet, it's kinda "bright" yet damp. Quite enjoying this.
Great news, hopefully it’s a good sign that your sensitivity to Oud & other natural materials is heightened once again.

Gaharu Hutan is nice - more oceanic, green, mineral & earthy than the minty / vanilla / sandal that I usually perceive from oils of Malinau.
Itreminds me of Indonesian Gyrinops from Nusa Tenggara or somewhere similar.

I recently tested his Ward Yaqoot 2023 - a beautiful citrusy Damascena. Unique green facets. Quite different than other Ruh Gulab I own. Very explosive off the skin.

Taha’s royal malaya
After probably a year of forgetting about my 0.7 stash, tried this beast today. One of the rarer agar aura oils that has improved tremendously over the months/years and filled the gaps and gained depth. A mash up of that purple gourmand note in hulubalang, plus the citrusy cola note of ayu and the purple florals of malaya. But more depth and breadth. This is delicious stuff and potent as hell
😍

Sorong 2022 - Rising Phoenix Perfumery

When JK says this oil is unique he doesn’t mean that lightly. Right off of the applicator, this oil has that predictable Papuan Filaria DNA. The opening that reminds you of a heavy downpour in the jungle but with a bitter facet, a clove-like spiciness, and tightly-bound floral notes. The first clue you get as to this oil’s uniqueness is its damp earthy aspect that reminds me of a patchouli oil at first.

After swiping this oil, the warmth of your skin calms the initial blast of wet jungle and cloves. A salty iodine-laden breeze wafts in as the dank humid notes subside. Some subtle white pepper comes out paired with a sweetness and creaminess that reminds me a little of an old-fashioned aftershave. The scent becomes increasingly smooth and diffuse as a dry woody backbone is revealed while retaining a through-line of earthy complexity. Occasionally, I get a light waft of lemon rind which I keep thinking must be something on my clothes but, when I sniff around for it, I can’t figure out where it’s coming from. It must be from the oil.

The two things about this oil that are most remarkable are; its reminiscence to a patchouli oil in its earthy facets as well as that salty breeze note.

JK has a few Papuan oils in his shop. All unique due to their varying terroir and distillation methods. Comparing Asiki Boven and Sorong shows the VAST olfactory landscape of just a single region and a single aquilaria species.

I received Asiki Boven tonight from Rising Phoenix. I really like it so far; I've never smelled anything like it. The description on the website is better than I could do myself. It doesn't smell like rose, but the olfactory texture reminds me of ta'ifi rose, especially on the opening. It hits hard in the beginning, and to me it smelled best at about 45 minutes after swiping. I'll have to spend more time with it before having a final opinion, as I feel like there is more to discover that eludes me now.

Any more thoughts on this one? I think JK’s recent papuan distillations are amazing and this vacuum distilled one Is wild; so much development!

Ya said I always find myself in the 1300s.in a mystical place,in a smoky place with curtains flying
This is a very beautiful oil and an instant favorite for me! Thank you for sharing this with us!!

well. I'm fucking pissed off. That may be the first time I've typed a swear word on this forum in the 5+yrs that I've been a member, but I think it's fully justified.

I've posted in the past about oils leaking OUT of the bottle, but this just takes the piss. Especially considering the price, and that I lost about 80% the oil during shipping, and took a $220 hit to be fair to the seller (we split the difference of the refund due to the spill during transit)
Please note, I'm not "having a go" at the seller here.

Anyway, the culprit is Hainan Ultima from Imperial Oud. Should've been about 1g, now I have very few swipes left in the bottle. Which cost me nearly $200.

It's been in storage with me the whole time since I bought it mid March, stored upright. I pulled the bottle out today, and the plastic 'slot' where the oil is kept is covered in oil, the bottle is slick with it, it's just everywhere. I've never had this happen to any other oil - some have leaked out of the bottle and into the cap over years, but never to this quantity and to actually coat the bottle is beyond. So, I'm wearing this oil without really wanting to, because my fingers are covered in it, and I didn't wanna waste it, so I've rubbed my fingers over my neck.

onto my SOTD....
I only pulled the IO oil out to smell from the applicator as I'm wearing Fragrant Harbour by @Hamza H (The attar store) and thought I'd give them a quick comparison. I've had th FH oil for a while but with my sense of smell being terrible lately I've only worn it once, and couldn't fully appreciate it, so thought I'd revisit.
FH is very minty, cooling and mentholated upon first swipe. Very vaporous, and a little sweet. Tickles the nose in a good way. A great sinensis oil.

Ugh - that sucks.

I’ve had a few spills and breaks in the workshop over the years.

I’ll use a paper towel to wipe up, and then stick it in my shirt drawer or closet.

You “lose it” - but at least it’s way can recapture some of what was lost onto the shirts you’ll eventually wear.

I feel for ya!
