A bit of CK resin absolute that I made. Resin absolute is a term typically used for a direct alcohol extraction of a resin followed by evaporation of the alcohol if I have things straight. This is from good quality CK shavings. The scent is quite mild - i see it as the "white ambergris" of oud - gentle, sweet, earthy but not loud at all and devoid of funk. This stuff absolutely explodes on a mica plate on the subitism - I know some folks here have experienced how intense extracts can be when heated. Funny how the potential for such intense aroma can be contained in something with such a mild presence. On skin that performance translates to a very long lasting beautiful dry woody base note that feels a bit like having your nose in a batch of nice clean sweet dry wood chips. A little delicious mineral aspect, ck tang.
I decanted some of the santalol extract just so i can experiment. Absolutely love it.
I have not yet extracted saffron into sandalwood oil though - just santalol isolate.
The extract in alcohol went more quickly and seemed to reach equilibrium a while ago. I'm not as crazy about the scent - harsher, drier, a bit starchy... and I have not yet worked on any alcohol fragrances with saffron so I don't have a whole lot to add other than I'm very glad I made both extractions. I probably should've ground up threads going into the santalol just to speed things along.
